Retainers and after treatment care

Retainer Care

Well the great day has finally arrived and your braces are gone (for good, we hope).

You now have a great smile of which you should be proud. Retainers will ensure your teeth stay straight. Clean them regularly with soap and water. Use toothpaste if there is a problem with odour but use sparingly as it will discolour the retainers. Retainer Brite tablets are also a very useful cleaning aid. When the retainers are not being worn they should be safely stored in a retainer box.

If you have pink plastic retainers, they must be worn for 6 months during the day and at night (including eating) followed by 6 months night time only and 2-3 nights each week thereafter indefinitely.

Clear retainers are to be worn for 2 weeks full time (not for eating). They can then be worn at night time only. This should be for a minimum of 12 months but we can only guarantee retention if you wear them indefinitely.

If you break your retainer or are unable to wear it, please contact the practice. Your teeth may move out of position if the retainer is not worn as instructed.

A beautiful smile is something to be treasured. Please look after it. You should not waste the effort that you have put into creating it.

You are now a walking advertisement for our practice. We would be delighted if you were to recommend us to your friends.

Best Wishes for the future
