How to look after removable braces
If you observe the following simple rules, your active treatment should be complete in about a year and in some cases within a few months.
- You must wear your appliance 24 hours a day including meal times. It must only be removed for cleaning.
- If you are unable to wear your appliance because it gets slack, it is too tight, broken or rubs contact the surgery immediately.
- Keep the plaster cast in a safe place and bring it with you should a repair be necessary. If the appliance gets broken but you can still wear it continue to do so until your next appointment.
- Keep your teeth and appliance absolutely clean.
- Do not eat toffees, chewing gum or boiled sweets.
If it is necessary to replace your appliance because it is broken beyond repair or lost you may need to pay the full cost of a replacement. Depending upon the circumstances a variable rebate may be offered.
