Vain Brits em-brace nice grins

Orders for adult dental braces have gone chew the roof as Brits try to get the perfect smile.

And the boom has been fuelled by the arrival of new tooth-coloured ceramic braces, which have replaced ugly “train-track” contraptions.

One practice in Sale, Gtr Manchester, saw 935 adults fitted with braces between 2005 and 2009.

Only 165 had them in the previous four years.

Dr Mohit Khurana, a consultant orthodontist at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It’s clear more adults are aware of the powerful influence that straight teeth and a confident smile can have.  As a result we’ve seen a sharp increase in those seeking consultations.”
