Need braces? At Turret Orthodontics, you’re spoiled for choice. We use a range of different braces so you’re guaranteed to find one you like. Our specialist orthodontist will recommend the best type of braces for you so you can be guaranteed the result you want.
Traditional metal braces are often given the name ‘train tracks’. These braces consist of metal brackets fitted to the front surface of your teeth with a thin metal archwire connecting them. Elastic bands then provide pressure to the archwire to help straighten your teeth. Although these braces are the original orthodontic treatment, they still work well and are a type of braces we use at Turret Orthodontics a lot.
Clear braces are a great alternative to traditional braces. Using small ceramic brackets which are fixed to your teeth, clear braces are comfortable to wear. The brackets are either clear or tooth coloured, making them incredibly discreet. Ceramic braces use the traditional method of brackets and archwires to move your teeth into position giving you the best of both worlds – a discreet treatment option with a great result.
At Turret Orthodontics, we use three brands of ceramic braces: Radiance, which uses clear ceramic brackets; InVu and Clarity, both of which use tooth coloured ceramic braces.
Self-ligating braces reflect the advances in orthodontic technology. Designed with discretion and comfort in mind, self-ligating braces use only brackets and archwires and respond to the movement of your teeth. This means no elastic bands are required to exert force on your teeth which is the method used in traditional metal braces. Less friction, easy to keep clean and a shorter treatment time – there are many advantages to self-ligating braces.
At Turret Orthodontics, we use two brands of self-ligating braces: Damon braces and Clarity SL braces.
Invisible braces, also known as lingual braces, are one of the most discreet treatment options available. This method fits gold alloy brackets to the back surface of your teeth next to your tongue. This means no-one can see them when you talk or smile. They are flatter in design than other types of brackets so don’t affect your speech and are comfortable to wear. Once you get used to them, you’ll barely know you’re having treatment and, because they’re so discreet, others won’t know you’re having treatment at all.
At Turret Orthodontics, we use the Incognito™ brand of lingual braces.
Our most discreet type of braces here at Turret Orthodontics is Invisalign and we're the largest specialist provider of Invisalign in the north of England. This method uses a series of clear plastic aligners to move teeth into position. They look a bit like thin sports mouthguards and have an extra benefit of being removable. You can find out more about Invisalign and our Diamond Invisalign status on our Invisalign page.

The Turret staff are the friendliest and most professional team and my daughters have received the highest quality treatment. My daughter's teeth have changed so much but one thing that has always shone through the process is that with the braces it has still not stopped either of my daughters smiling. My eldest daughter Megan has the most amazing smile now and our Abigail is just a few months away from having her beautiful smile too. Kat and Lucy have been the best orthodontists and a big thank you to each of the nurses that have assisted. Without a doubt I would recommend the Turret for anyone who wants that Hollywood Smile.
