Fixed Braces Treatment Success

Our patient presented to Turret Orthodontics with concerns about the appearance and alignment of their teeth. At their initial assessment, they were diagnosed with a Class II incisor relationship, an increased overjet of 5mm, moderate upper and lower crowding and an increased overbite. The patient was also found to have moderate displacement of the upper right central incisor.

Following a detailed clinical assessment, photographs, scans and radiographs, a carefully considered treatment plan was developed. Importantly, the treatment could be completed without the need for extractions, using fixed braces on both the upper and lower teeth.

The treatment began with the placement of fixed metal braces to both arches. A series of carefully selected archwires were then used throughout treatment, gradually aligning and levelling the teeth before progressing towards the finishing stages. This staged approach allowed the position of the teeth and bite to be carefully monitored and refined throughout the patient’s orthodontic journey.

As treatment progressed, Class II elastics were introduced to help improve the patient’s bite and achieve a more balanced relationship between the upper and lower teeth. By this stage, the overjet had reduced to 4.5mm, with further adjustments continuing to refine the final result.

After approximately 23 months of treatment, the patient’s fixed braces were ready to be removed. At their final appointment, the patient was happy with the appearance of their teeth and was pleased to reach this important stage of their orthodontic journey. The braces were carefully debonded, with the upper and lower incisal edges polished to further refine the appearance of the smile.

Scans were then taken for the patient’s Essix retainers, marking the transition from active orthodontic treatment into the retention phase. Retainers play an important role in helping to maintain the position of the teeth following treatment and protect the result achieved.
